Invented more than 100 years ago, plastics are now present in virtually every aspect of everyday life – from water bottles to building materials and medical equipment. News and studies on marine plastic pollution began to emerge in the 1970s, but it was not until 2010 that the accumulated evidence alarmed the scientific community and society as a whole. Although this topic has matured with information at a global level, this report is an effort to consolidate an overview of the Brazilian context of plastic pollution, based on national, public and private data. With this document, we hope to deepen and qualify the debate on single-use plastics from a national portrait,
